The trade show industry in Las Vegas is breaking records left and right. In the first half of 2016, more than three million people visited the city to attend conferences and conventions, which is a 12.1 increase from the same period last year.
It’s no surprise Las Vegas is doing so well. Last year, it was named the No. 1 trade show destination for the 22nd consecutive year by Trade Show News Network’s “2015 TSNN Top 250 Trade Shows in the United States.” Las Vegas hosted 54 of the 250 largest trade shows in the country in 2015 and the city is looking to break that record this year with exhibitions that are bigger and better in square footage, attendance and number of exhibitors.
Record-breaking exhibitions in Las Vegas
Some of the most important trade shows in Las Vegas have broken records in all three categories. The Consumer Technology Association’s CES show, already a 2015 record-breaker, beat its own numbers this year with 2.47 million net square feet of space and over 170,000 attendees.
Audiovisual convention InfoComm, held in June this year, hosted nearly 39,000 people and 1,000 exhibitors in over 527,000 net square feet of space. Security conference ISC West boasted its highest attendance yet, with nearly 30,000 people visiting and interacting with over 1,000 exhibitors. These are just a few of the many successful trade shows that have made Las Vegas the epicenter of the trade show universe.
More growth in the works
Even though 2016 has boasted new records in the trade show industry for the city, Las Vegas is continuing to expand its offerings to maintain a top ranking. Hotels like the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino, Wynn Paradise Park and Resorts World Las Vegas are investing millions of dollars in renovation and expansion projects. Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is also working on the Las Vegas Convention Center District, which will expand on the existing center. Last week, the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee voted for a proposal that would fund the project. The proposal will next go to the Nevada Legislature for approval.
